Simple And Natural Ways Of Eliminating Acne

By Matt Burroughs

There are several natural acne skin treatments available that have been used for centuries. In fact, quite a number of people who find commercial acne treatments too harsh on their skin and wallet end up turning to alternative ways to eliminate acne. It can be quite depressing when you cannot seem to find relief from acne of any sort, but rest assured that organic and natural solutions do exist.

But before you give up on ever having better skin, here are some natural ways you can deal with your acne.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is obtained from a plant that is native to Australia, otherwise known as Melaleuca alternifolia. The leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia plant go through a process of steam distillation and what is extracted is tea tree oil.

What makes tea tree oil an effective treatment for acne is the ingredient terpinen-4-ol. This ingredient is assumed to be the reason why tea tree oil is so effective in killing off bacteria, making it a powerful essential oil in the treatment of acne which is infected by bacteria.

Acne is caused by the Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. With the application of tea tree oil to the infected area, the active ingredient inside tea tree oil works to seek and destroy these germs that cause you to have acne.

Zinc Supplements

A simple way to fight against acne is to improve the health of your skin. A great way to do this is to supplement your diet with vitamins and minerals necessary for healthy skin. Most of our modern diets tend to be deficient in one way or another of the nutrients that we need. In fact, zinc deficiency is one reason why you may be suffering from acne. To improve the health of your skin, you just need to increase the amount of zinc in your diet, which many of the acne vitamins tend to contain.

Of all the forms that zinc can be found in, zinc picolinate is the one that our body most readily and easily absorbs. While you may have zinc in your diet, your body does not always process every form of zinc quite that easily. To help improve your skin condition, you can still look to vitamin supplements that make up for any deficiency in your regular diet.

Taking vitamin supplements can also help to enrich your diet as many people are allergic or do not have access to zinc rich foods. Taking zinc supplements can help to counteract this deficiency quickly and easily, and help in reducing future acne breakouts.

Alpha-Hydroxy Acids

In the fight against acne, you will find that sometimes alpha-hydroxy acids are recommended. Normally sold at concentration levels of 10% or less, you can find it contained in acne treatment products that are sold over the counter.

How alpha-hydroxy acids are used to fight against acne is through exfoliation. By applying it to your skin and leaving it for some time, the acids eat away at the upper layer of your skin to reveal newer and living cells underneath. Yes, it is a mild form of resurfacing.

However, between the use of alpha hydroxy acid and salicylic acid (aka beta hydroxy acid), salicylic is preferred. Being oil soluble, salicylic acid can be absorbed into the pores better to work on your skin.

Brewer's Yeast

Brewer's yeast is an inactive form of yeast where the elements that cause it to have a leavening effect have already been killed. It comes from the unicellular fungus Saccharomyces Cerevisiae and is quite effective as a form of acne control.

Why should you take brewer's yeast? We already mentioned that a healthy and balanced diet can be a good weapon against acne for healthier skin. If your diet is lacking in amino acids, B vitamins and other compounds that are essential for healthy skin, taking brewer's yeast can be a great source of these nutrients.

Before you start taking brewer's yeast, it is a good idea to consult with your doctor if you have any allergies or have an extremely sensitive constitution. But many people have reported that brewer's yeast has helped them treat their acne condition, and especially those who suffer from cystic acne.

Azelaic Acid

A natural element that kills bacteria in the skin, azelaic acid can help you to clear your acne and even prevent it from recurring. It is also useful in reducing or healing acne inflammation.

Azelaic acid is shown to be as effective in treating acne when compared to benzoyl peroxide, tretonoin and antibiotics. You do need patience when on this form of acne control. It usually takes about 1-2 months after regular application that you start to see results. Azelaic acid is more often used for mild to moderate acne that is caused by bacteria.

Azelaic acid is not without its side effects. Some people have noted that azelaic acid can cause burning, stinging, reddish skin and dryness. So you do need to carefully apply it only on areas that are affected by acne. After you are finished with its application, be sure to wash your hands.

Is having clear skin really just a dream? With some of the suggestions that you have read in this article, you have simple and effective ways in which to have the kind of skin that you have dreamed of. So don't give up and be depressed. Clear and beautiful skin is more than possible..
